US winter wheat crop condition improved last week, after rains in areas including top growing state Kansas, but remains low by historical standards.

Only in three previous years, in 2006, 1996 and 1989, has the “good” or “excellent” rating come in below 30% at this time of year, on data going back to the late 1980s.

Investors had expected a 29% figure.
